Program Description:
The NY.NJ Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Center (NY.NJ PERLC) at the University at Albany is hosting a joint conference with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Columbia Regional Learning Center entitled, "Vaccine Preventable Diseases: Policy, Practice, Preparedness", on Monday, July 23, 2012, from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The conference will provide the most current training and guidelines to public health and school nurse first responders, as well as other health professionals including physicians in pediatric and family practice, health officers, health educators, and other primary care providers. A variety of speakers will address issues related to immunizations in New York and New Jersey. To view individual presentations, please visit

Objectives:
At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will be able to:

  1. State the importance of global influenza policy/procedure/program to local practice
  2. Describe key components/criteria used in the ACIP deliberation process and decisions
  3. Cite two examples of vector-borne diseases, their prevalence, impact on health, and vaccine issues;
  4. Describe the importance of flu immunization based on a vivid personal story

Who Should Attend:
State and local public health professionals, school nurses, and physicians. The cost for the conference is $40. Refreshments, lunch and continuing education credits are included in the conference fee.
