2007 Regional Epidemiology Training for NYS Local Health Departments
June 20 - August 14, 2007
Program Description:
This training will provide competency-based epidemiology training to local health department staff who are currently involved in epidemiological investigations as well as those who may be called upon to assist in surge capacity during a large-scale communicable disease outbreak.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will be able to:
- Recall the basic principles and fundamentals of public health epidemiology.
- Describe the steps of a public health outbreak investigation.
- Describe the purpose and components of developing a hypothesis-generating/testing interview.
- Develop a hypothesis-generating/testing questionnaire.
- Describe public health interventions for community outbreaks.
- Identify issues that may arise during a public health investigation, such as prioritization of activities, staffing, communication roadblocks and confidentiality.
