Chemical & Radiological Training for Public Health Professionals - CD-Rom of materials available

Program Description:
The goal of training is to provide state and local public health professionals and their response partners with information related to chemical and radiological threats and response from the public health professional's point of view. Specific topics include NIMS/ICS, CHEMPACK, HERDS, SNS, Risk Communication, Industrial Chemicals and Terrorism Agents, Chemical Detection Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Decontamination, and Radiation Basics, Protection & Response.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will be able to:
- Identify situations in which NIMS should/can be used by public health professionals and their partners
- Become familiar with the basics of NYS DOH preparedness programs, including CHEMPACK, the Health Emergency Response Database System (HERDS) and the Strategic National Stockpile program (SNS)
- Understand why risk communication is essential to public health emergency preparedness, response and recovery
- Demonstrate the public health role in aiding the state to prepare for and respond to a chemical or radiological emergency
- Recognize situations where personal protective equipment should be used
- Describe the principles and procedures of decontamination

Who Should Attend:
